Using X-Rays to Diagnose Illness & Injury
Whether your pet was attacked by an animal or is simply exhibiting unusual behavior, it is important to diagnose the problem quickly. Radiographs – more commonly known as x-rays – are valuable tools in diagnosing a wide range of health conditions, including both injuries and illnesses.
At Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital, our facility is fully equipped with an in-house x-ray machine that allows us to quickly diagnose problems not found by physical examination or blood testing. Our animal x-ray services in Franklin Lakes are an important effort in diagnosing health problems.

How It Works
An x-ray machine allows our veterinarians to take images – radiographs – of your pet and to examine the area for abnormalities. X-rays are quick and painless. In most cases, your pet will not need to be anesthetized or sedated.
X-rays can be used to detect many conditions, including but not limited to:
- Fractures
- Intestinal issues
- Tumors
- Heart defects
We can take radiographs of the skeletal system, spine, heart and lungs, abdomen, and skull.
Once testing is complete, our veterinarians will review the results and make an accurate diagnosis. In some cases, anesthesia is used so we can make sure we get the best and most clear view of the problem area. If your pet requires it, we also offer surgical and ultrasound services.
